We hope your year is off to a good start. Starting off the year on a positive note, we've got a lot of good tax-related news to share. So much so, in fact, we'll have to spread it out over a few weeks.

First up is your ability to save taxes by saving energy. That's right - you can save the polar ice caps, the horned puffin, and the ozone layer all while lowering your 2006 tax bill. Simply install energy efficient items such as doors, windows, and insulation systems. (Sorry, no tax breaks available for clear plastic and duct tape.)

Leaving your new energy-efficient castle, why not step into a new, IRS-approved hybrid gas-electric car? Doing so could provide a tax credit between $650 and $3,450, depending on the car's gas usage. The money you save can then be reinvested to trick out your hybrid with a phat stereo and spinner rims.

More good news next week. Stay tuned!
