What would the New Year be without drinking a cup of kindness, viewing fabulous fireworks, kissing complete strangers at midnight, watching lots of college football, resolving to exercise regularly, and learning the new IRS mileage deduction rates?

For 2006, the new standard mileage deduction rate is 44.5 cents per mile. Faithful readers of this newsletter will know that while the new rate represents a four cent increase over the January 2005 rates, it's actually a four cent decrease from the September 2005 rates, which were temporarily set in place in response to spiking gas prices.

Happy 2006 to you! May you keep your resolutions and avoid kissing strangers.
